Ageing Better in Birmingham to host a tea dance and activity day for over 50’s
In recognition of national ‘Older Persons Day’ celebrations, nationally-funded campaign, Ageing Better in Birmingham, will be hosting a tea dance and activity day for the over 50’s community on Saturday 29th September.
Held at The Crown on Tyburn Road in Erdington, the free event will have an array of activities throughout the day so the public can experience what the Tyburn area has to offer on a regular basis.
With a huge selection to take part in, the day offers a fun means to meet new people and opportunities to take part in games, arts & crafts, dancing, exercises and more, with entertainment from special guest The Umbrella Man.
The focus of the Ageing Better programme is to support people aged over 50 to be better connected to their communities and encourage social connections.
Laura Grigg, Network Enabler for Ageing Better, said:
Due to a variety of circumstances, people can find themselves becoming out of touch with social interaction as they get older – this could be due to medical issues, not having much family, loss of confidence or a number of other reasons.
Many don’t realise the importance of socialisation; not only does it prevent loneliness, but research shows it has a positive impact on general health and wellbeing.
So while we encourage people to stay active with family, friends and neighbours where they can, Ageing Better in Birmingham also provides a range of interesting programs and classes to bring together other mature adults in the area.
Our Tea Dance is going to be an exciting day where the public can sample activities which are held in the Tyburn area on a regular basis, but most importantly, have a nice time while getting to know one another.
Compass Support (part of The Pioneer Group) works with the Ageing Better programme as part of their Independent Living support services.
The event is free with no tickets required and families are welcome to join. If you’re interested in taking part, visit The Crown on Tyburn Road in Erdington from 11am-3pm.
