This month marks a significant milestone for Castle Vale as The Sanctuary celebrates 25 years since its official opening in May 2000. Originally established as part of the area’s regeneration efforts, The Sanctuary has been a cornerstone for community engagement and support.
To commemorate this occasion, residents are invited to a special celebration on Friday 30th May from 12 midday to 3pm at The Sanctuary. The event promises a day filled with free games and activities suitable for all ages, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Castle Vale. Attendees can also explore a mini exhibition showcasing a collection of photographs and videos that showcase Castle Vale’s rich history and the community’s journey over the years. This exhibition aims to highlight the stories and memories that have shaped the neighbourhood.
Residents who wish to contribute their own photographs or videos to the exhibition are encouraged to get in touch with Eve Baker-Sullivan at eve.baker-sullivan@compass-support.org.uk or visit The Sanctuary to speak with staff.
Since 2015, Compass Support has been operating from The Sanctuary, providing a range of services designed to empower residents and foster community wellbeing. The anniversary event will also feature representatives from various partner organisations, offering insights into ongoing initiatives and opportunities for residents to get involved or seek support.
Tracey Quirk, Head of Community Regeneration, shared her thoughts on the milestone: “For 25 years, The Sanctuary has stood as more than just a building, it has been the heartbeat of Castle Vale. It’s a place where connections are nurtured, support is extended, and every individual finds a sense of belonging. The dedication of local residents who volunteer, lead activities, and voice their perspectives, has been instrumental in cultivating this vibrant community hub.”
