Compass Support is recruiting volunteers

Recently Compass Support, the charitable arm of The Pioneer Group, has been granted funding through BVSC on behalf of Birmingham City Council as part of its Compassionate Communities project to help it find up to 100 people – or Community Connectors – in Erdington and Sutton Coldfield.

The Community Connectors will undergo training to help them support residents who may otherwise feel isolated including people at the end-of-life stage, their carers and also those who may have recently lost a loved one.

To achieve this, Compass Support is looking to recruit eight volunteers who will play a very important role to go out into the local community to find these Community Connectors.

Molly Miles, Health & Wellbeing Project Coordinator, Compass Support said:

We are excited to receive the funding which will allow Compass Support to help further deepen the fabric of our communities by reaching out to connect with those that are particularly vulnerable and in need of support. Please contact the Compass Support office if you would like to be part of the Compassionate Communities project as a volunteer. Your time and commitment make this worthwhile project possible.

The Community Connectors volunteers will also meet with faith leaders, and speak with other professionals to help Compass Support reach out to the community. They will also launch events where local people can come for advice, information and access to support groups.

Last year, Birmingham was recognised as Britain’s first Compassionate City for the way its communities, like Erdington and Sutton Coldfield have supported each other during some of the most difficult times.

If you have time and would like to apply as a volunteer or think that you could be a Community Connector, please contact Compass Support at:
