CVCH Community Caretakers are inviting local residents to join them on Monday 28 March to Friday 1 April 2022 to help give Castle Vale’s public spaces a Spring clean!
The initiative is part of the annual Great British Spring Clean, taking place nationally from 25 March to 10 April 2022. Back for its seventh year, the Great British Spring Clean is organised by the Keep Britain Tidy charity and aims to reduce litter, encourage recycling and improve the environment. It believes that every act to protect the environment, no matter how small, makes a difference. This year, the charity invites everyone to join its #BigBagChallenge and pledge to pick up as much litter as possible during the campaign. This could be just one bag or a bigger challenge.
Irfan Mehboob, CCTV and Estates Service Manager, CVCH (Castle Vale Community Housing) said:
The CVCH Community Caretakers are committed to making Castle Vale a clean place to live. In the past 12 months, the team have done an amazing job of removing 85 tons of bulky waste and fly-tipping – roughly 130 truckloads – and over 1,000 bags of litter-picked rubbish!
We’re not stopping there though – for the Great British Spring Clean we’re going to be out all week armed with litter-pickers and bin bags tackling each area of the estate and welcome anyone who feels inspired to join in; every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps!
During the 2019 Great British Spring Clean, a team of more than 70 volunteers across the community in high-visibility vests, carried bin bags and litter pickers to gather 146 bags of rubbish around the whole Castle Vale estate. In six and a half hours, the volunteers picked up the equivalent of a month and a half’s worth of normal household rubbish!
Litter pickers and bin bags will be made available for anyone wishing to participate as part of the campaign. Residents can simply attend the 11 High Street reception on any morning from Monday 28 March to Friday 1 April to collect any equipment needed and get involved. Groups will be leaving from the reception to different areas of the estate every morning at 9:15 to ensure different areas of Castle Vale are covered.
There will be more information shortly on various ways to get involved to help #KeepCastleValeClean, on CVCH’s Facebook page but residents can also contact the team on 0121 748 8100 or contactus@cvch.org.uk
