National Apprenticeship Week is a chance to recognise the value apprentices bring to organisations and communities across the country.
Apprenticeships play a key role in developing future talent and creating career pathways and this week showcase the positive impact apprenticeships make.
While we don’t currently have apprentices within our own organisation, we’re proud to champion apprenticeship opportunities through our partnership work.
As part of our repairs and maintenance contract with Housing Plus Group, we recently supported the recruitment of an apprentice to work within the team serving Castle Vale.
One of those success stories is Jahvell, whose journey is already a standout example of the value apprentices can bring.
Wrekin on Jahvell’s progress:
“Jahvell stood out from the first day he attended the recruitment for attitude session. He was one of 30 shortlisted from over 170 applicants for the group session and then one of the eight shortlisted for interview.
In the interview, his maturity, confidence and enthusiasm shone through and he has maintained these traits since starting with us in August. He has already become a valued member of the team, and we have had nothing but positive feedback from the trades he works with, tenants, Walsall College and his line manager.
He is over halfway through his first year of his two‑year carpentry course and is shaping up to be a very good trade if he maintains the high standards he has already set.”
Hear from Jahvell himself:
“I am incredibly grateful to be undertaking my carpentry apprenticeship with Housing Plus Group. This has been such a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills within a professional and supportive environment. Learning the trade hands-on while contributing to the community has been invaluable, and I am excited to continue building my career with such a reputable organisation.”
