Compass Support, the charitable subsidiary of The Pioneer Group, is encouraging residents in Tyburn ward to nominate their neighbours, friends or colleagues for the first ever Happy Streets Awards.
The one-of-a-kind awards offer the perfect opportunity to say thank you to those members of the community that always express acts of kindness and make the area a great place to live.
Nominations can be made by both individuals and businesses, and the organisers are looking for examples of:
- Being a good neighbour; perhaps someone had helped you through a difficult time
- Great volunteer work; do you know someone who goes out of their way to keep your neighbourhood clean, safe and happy?
- Inspirational co-workers; is there a member of your team that makes people’s lives that bit better?
Entries are already hitting the boxes following a leaflet drop and a number of events, including a Halloween evening which saw 40 families and 150 children gather for fun and games.
Nominations include individuals praised for gardening for the elderly and checking in on isolated neighbours.
All finalists are welcomed to bring a guest to an awards evening at The Crown, Erdington in January 2020, where a DJ will entertain, food, teas and coffees will be provided, and the winners will receive a certificate and an opportunity to celebrate.
Leonie Hammond, Community Organiser Coordinator at Compass Support, said:
Since starting the Happy Streets initiative we have been overwhelmed by the acts of kindness demonstrated by so many of our residents. We now encourage you to nominate those people to make sure that they are recognised for the great work they are doing to make our part of Birmingham a better place to live and work.
Deadline for nominations 15 January 2020 with the awards evening scheduled for the end of January. To nominate someone, simply fill out the contact form at the bottom of the following link www.compass-support.org.uk/happystreets
