Getting to know Head of Asset Management: Keith Lanchbury

In our new “Getting to know” series we chat with the team at The Pioneer Group and its partners, so that you can get to know the names and faces of the people behind our efforts to build a better Castle Vale.

We’re starting with Keith Lanchbury, Head of Asset Management, who joined us in late 2019 from another housing association. He came to The Pioneer Group as he liked the community-based model, where residents are provide their input on strategy, delivery and more.

Keith’s background is solidly in the housing sector. He has over 35 years of experience with housing associations and even ran his own property maintenance business.

We asked him about his day-to-day work, values, life outside work and more…

What does a typical day at work look like for you and your team?

In my role as the Head of Asset Management, I manage a team of seven and we work on a range of projects. For example, we’re currently supervising renewals of some kitchens and bathrooms.

We also maintain property safety with regular gas, electricity and legionella safety checks. Some days we need to react quickly if urgent repairs come in, such as broken-down lifts. We also manage contractors and ensure that planned work is carried out on time and emergency work is completed quickly. I am responsible for planning and organising the team and monitoring performance against budgets. As I am relatively new to the organisation, I am also reviewing processes to identify room for improvement.

How does your team help the communities that we work in?

We’re here to ensure that our tenants live in a safe environment, and we deliver that through our efficient maintenance and repair services.

What are some personal values that are important to you?

Delivering what we promise is important to me. Our tenants deserve a good quality and timely service from their housing association and partners.

What motivates you to be your best self?

I have always been very driven and self-motivated to do my best in whatever am doing.  At The Pioneer Group, the feeling of delivering a good service motivates me.

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a professional footballer, but that didn’t happen, so I became a surveyor straight from school. I didn’t know at the time that my granddad and his brother were in the building trade, so it seems I am following in their footsteps.

What is your favourite memory of being involved in your community?

With my love of football, I have been able to help my community through sport. I coached a local junior football team and also ran my son’s cub scouts football team.

What approach do you take to look after your mental wellbeing?

I avoid stress by being relatively well organised and do my absolute best in my eight-hour day. Hopefully, I will be able to pass my attitude onto the rest of the team.

What is one item on your bucket list?

I would like to visit Australia.

Who is an inspirational individual you look up to?

My dad still inspires me to this day, even though he has sadly passed away. He is always with me.

How do you relax outside of work?

I love spending time with family, especially as I have three grandchildren. I also enjoy the theatre, eating out, walking, decorating and gardening.

What do you enjoy about being part of The Pioneer Group?

It’s a really friendly organisation and I can genuinely feel the community spirit.
