Local residents living in Castle Vale and surrounding areas who are trying to get back into work or are facing redundancy and are interested in a career with the NHS can apply to The Pioneer Group’s Place 2 Work programme. The Place 2 Work team is supporting an NHS local recruitment initiative called I Can which helps connect job seekers into training and employment opportunities.
The team recently spoke with Shenaz Petkar, a successful Place 2 Work candidate, to hear about her experience on the scheme.
How did you hear about Place 2 Work?
I attended an information session held by The Pioneer Group at Saathi House before joining the programme.
How did you feel about getting a job in the NHS?
I thought there was no way that I’d ever be able get into the NHS. I hadn’t been working for a a while; I lacked the confidence to work again, but Place2Work guided me through the process. Once I felt ready with the advice and tips given, I applied and went for a “speed” interview session before my first interview on a Saturday. I was awarded a job as a ward clerk on the Monday! I couldn’t quite believe it. I was crying, I was so happy.
What would you say to anyone interested in Place 2 Work?
It’s great for women who need the support to get back to work or need the support. Maybe they’re carers or a parent that needs a part time job. Anyone that has even a few hours to spare and thinks they could do something useful, should take a look at the initiative.
How important is the Place 2 Work scheme?
The support that the initiative is giving to women especially within the community is so important. It allows them to have a guided hand and opportunity to follow on to employment. It provides the participant with skills, so that they won’t be fearful when applying for a reole, and a knowledgeable team to turn to for help.
What would you like to say to the Place 2 Work funders?
I would like to thank the funders for supporting this employment programme. It’s lifechanging.
